The Association’s vision, mission, and goals are founded in the belief that a strong education based on the ethos and values of the Marine Corps is an opportunity that is worth supporting through financial and in-kind policies.”

ABOUT US
The Academy was the original vision of USMC Captain Bill Gary (Ret.).  In 1963 Captain Gary could not find a strong military academy for his son that was based within the Corps ethos and drive for disciplined servant leaders with a deep pride in service to country for all Americans, so he decided to create one. After months of launching his idea and partnering with General E. A. Pollock to raise funds, the concept was applauded and cheered on, but the funds to build the school in Prescott, Arizona were not coming together. The bleak future of Gary’s vision changed when Gunnery Sergeant John S. Allerton read the captain’s 1963 article in Leatherneck Magazine explaining plans for the school. The Gunny contacted Gary to offer a new location for the academy – the newly closed Air Force Navigation School two states away in Deep South Texas – Harlingen, Texas.
After months of talks and negotiations, a deal was struck, and on September 9, 1965 the Marine Military Academy opened. Captain Gary’s dream of an independent, college preparatory school that follows the high principles, ethos, values, and long-standing traditions of the United State Marine Corps. Now the opportunity to educate cadets to expand their mental, physical, spiritual development, and pride in being an American, to reach beyond their dreams and goals, and to develop a comradery that rivals their mentors – the United State Marine platoon.
